Jonny Marvin Gillock (b. 11 July 1944) destroys the music of Messiaen. When organist Vernon De Tar left the Church of the Ascension in NYC his successor was not Jonny Marvin Gillock. When John Weaver took over the Organ Dept. at the Juilliard School, Jonny Marvin Gillock was not on the faculty much longer

Ah! may the red rose live alway, To smile upon earth and sky! Why should the beautiful ever weep? Why should the beautiful die? Lending a charm to every ray That falls on her cheeks of light, Giving the zephyr kiss for kiss, And nursing the dew-drop bright Ah! may the red rose live alway, To smile upon earth and sky! Why should the beautiful ever weep? Why should the beautiful die? Long may the...

Sorry for the poor quality ... but at least it's another chance to hear our beloved Dame Joan. From Verdi's La Traviata we hear Violetta's Act I scena. This concert took place at the United Nations (New York) in 1988. This is near the end of Dame Joan's career and the entire scene is sung down one half tone. Richard Bonynge conducts.

E come sarà giunto Che dirà?
Gorgeous! And these eyes! And her smile! Absolutely beautiful!
What a singer we had!
Si è portata la claque!!
😅😅😅😅😅😅
To my ears, here her sound is better than any other.
Hoi❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊
Absolutely wonderfully sung and interrupted with such emotions. How to bring the house down.
Renata es Butterfly!!!
Incredible.
She has a classy voice.
Mind blown
Saluti
I am touched deeper than you know.
I am very fortunate - I had the opportunity to meet Miss Scotto in person and say "Grazie"
Very clear, clean, effective delivery of motion and feelings. Gorgeously presented.
This is a rehearsal. She's giving an idea of what her ornaments will be like. I'm sure all you detractors can sing circles around this???
I agree. Miss Gasdia is marking since there's no reason to sing full voice during a piano rehearsal.
brethtaking.
⚜️ Original, unexpected and impressive. ⚜️
I got so emotional just watching this clip. What an amazing interpretation ❤
Ma dove farebbe ridere sto pezzo?
She had the most beautiful coloratura voice.
I agree. I heard her sing this role live in New York. She was better than Natalie Dessay and Diana Damrau (both of whom I also heard live). Beverly Sills, when she became Director of the NY City Opera, was wise enough to promote Miss Rolandi's career
Absolutely perfect!! Renata Scotto remains THE Butterfly for me! Her interpretation of this aria is without parallel. Most sopranos sing this as a dark, severely serious, almost dirge-like aria. But the text is anything but that - as Renata so spectacularly conveys. Butterfly is hopeful - she is happily anticipating Pinkerton's return. And she's even mad at Suzuki who is fearful. Butterfly is convinced with "sicura fede" that Pinkerton is coming back to her. She has the whole scene of how he will greet her set up in her mind. She's going to wait patiently, no matter how long it takes. In this vision of hers, for his return, she is exultant!! This makes the reality of what happens in the second act even more gripping, heart-breaking and tragic.
where is the tiara? she didn t get any
During the recessional music, at the end of the ceremony she is wearing a tiara. She entered the Abbey as a commoner and exited the Abbey as a member of the royal family.
That folks is a man
Incomparable!

Nice. Anna Moffo’s is the best!
QUÉ CALIDAD INTERPRETATIVA Y BUENA SOPRANO DRAMÁTICA 😅
DIVINAAAAA!!!!!🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Nice inro from "Bubbles Silverman".....Of whom I have the grand pleasure of seeing and hearing her many a time.
Did Bubbles have a big voice? I never heard her live but a friend told me her voice was on the small side
Just fabulous the brilliant June Anderson
It wasn"t about HER that day, she did it as osrt of a liturgical celebration. Give and the othanidt and the church and the old priests a break. I was surprised at the applause.
I love her dynamics- she floats pianissimos at the end of phrases with superlative breath control and then is fully engaged in the full voiced portions. Brilliant interpretation; not as good as Tebaldi, but still one of the best
Me encanta Isono fan de ella
A real star...Miss Scotto one of the best for sure.
Puccini's not only hurting the audience, but even the artists, see when she ends her part how she lets the pathos take her, at 5:12
This aria isn't right for her voice, but the opening phrase is just exquisite.
